Just Horsin Around

After completing the carousel horse for my sister, I knew I needed to make more. Requests came piling in. While traveling, I found another horse and the journey began. Since then, I've completed one more and am working on two others...

Carousel Wonder Horse

As a surprise for my sister I transformed a rocking horse from (the 60's) in to a carousel horse. Of course it had to look like her black Morgan mare Princess. Her blog site is called WW Creations (WWcreations.blogspot.com) as is her mini ranch in Oregon. WW stands for Weenie Wanch after the Doxies that she and hubby love.

It took hours to complete this project and needless to say, she was thrilled to receive it and acknowledge the time and craftmanship involved. I must admit it was fun to create.

Fast forward and I'm now working on a couple more. I've included pictures of my latest acquisition.....

Artifacts

My step daughter wanted to decorate my Grandson's room with artwork depicting his ancestor's heritage. Aaron's grandmother on his father's side is a full Yaqui Indian. I volunteered to research and then create some faux artifacts for his room.

The dream catchers will catch his bad dreams and they will disappear in the sunlight. The map will lead him to the tribe's home. The Dancing Mask will remind him of ceremonial dances.

Creation:
The map is on leather that I aged by burning the edges and I mounted it on a board that I "crackled" using dark brown and fawn on top. It is my interpretation of a map of the original Yaqui territory of about 1700 to 1800.

The Dream Catcher's are hand woven.

The Dancing Mask is painted and features real horse hair as an embellishment.
(No horse was harmed - my sisters horse's tail was too curly so we had to find one that was having a bad hair day....)

New Doll House

Imagine finding a doll house kit in someone's trash. On a morning walk with my wife we came across this doll house kit ready to be picked up by the disposal company. We ask permission to have it - the answer was "yes" and now I'm on a new project...

New Year - New Projects

I like to try something new, so I put aside my sea glass jewelry and miniature house projects and settled in to do some carving and birdhouse building. In our beautiful weather I work on our patio and enjoy the flowers and birds that visit our feeders. Just last week, on one of these beautiful days, a hawk came around to wish me well - or perhaps enjoy an easy lunch from the feeder. I succeeded in taking a photo of my visitor from afar and it didn't turn out very clear, but I was being careful not to scare the big bird off. If you notice there is a carved eagle sitting near the table. Maybe, the hawk was visiting the carving... (hawk is circled in pix)

I can argue with myself that I have too many crafts, but the diversity of my artwork allows me to express myself and stay interested. Maybe, there is a Muse in the shape of a hawk, traveling my neighborhood and dropped in on that beautiful day to give me some new ideas and inspiration. We'll just never know, will we? Oh by the way, the drawings on my carvings are original. Sometimes, I even surprise myself....

Wow, we are now about to enter 2010.... Such a great future ahead of us! Did I tell you I am into politics? I am and hope that I make a difference. I try hard to!!!

For the future - I will be working on a new miniature home for my Granddaughter. I look forward to sharing pictures and updates with you. I'm hoping that 2010 will be healthy and productive for you and yours. I KNOW I will make it a "new year".... Please leave a comment - that way, I will know that you visited.

Rocks, Sea Glass - maybe jewelry

Although these designs are my first, I've found I enjoy working with Sea Glass. On our many trips to the sea shore, my wife and I have find various colors and sizes of sea glass. It's always amazing to find a new color or unusually shaped piece.

Been a while since I posted but I have been busy. I made a replica of a neighbor's mountain home. Also, my flowers are enjoying the spring.

Our close friend lost his companion dog "Betty". I've included her marker that I created in her honor.

Not Just Another House

Celebrating the finish......They are hard to see but the "glass door knobs" welcome you to come and join me for a cup of tea, a cold cola or a glass of fine wine.

Thanks to Susan my wife for her decorating expertise. Everything is so comfortable.

Now, just to figure out how I can miniaturize myself and spend a day in my new den watching Nascar. Maybe I will play the guitar or simply
shoot a game of pool.....

After replacing Mother's windows in her old house, I didn't have the heart to discard them. Behind those windows were favorite memories. One thing I did was to make a table to hold my favorite miniature house.
